Eilean Donan Castle

IV40 Kyle, GB

The Eilean Donan Castle, built on an island right at the point of three lakes meeting eachother, is surrounded by the Scottish Highlands. Shows like “Highlander” and even the iconic James Bond franchise used the castle as a film set.

The castle was first built in 1220 to defend against Viking attacks and was destroyed in the first Jacobite Rising in 1719. Only centuries later, in the year 1912, the castle started its restoration process and was opened as a museum to the public in 1955. Since then, it has served multiple film productions as a set, including “Highlander”, but the most famous movie it starred in most definititely is “James Bond: The World is not Enough”. There, it was used as the Scottish headquarters of the MI6. With its remote location it fitted the needed atmospheric feeling of the secretive, remote and hidden MI6, where under the old Castle Ruins laid a highly modern MI6 headquarters.

Today, the castle is open for public and draws many visitors every year. With its unique location at the point of three lakes meeting in the middle of the Scottish Highlands and as a castle on an island, that should not be a surprise. You yourself can also experience the movie locations and the awesome setting for a low price of about 10 pounds. In my opinion, the combination of the Scottish Highlands, the location of three lakes converging and just being on an island make it a must-see for everyone.
And there is always the option to go out for a walk through the Scottish Highlands. For fans of the James Bond Franchise or shows like “Highlander” the combination of iconic movie set and beautiful location just make it an even better destination for a vacation.

The Ardverikie Estate

Newtonmore, GB

The Ardverikie Estate, right in the middle of Scotland, has become a popular filming location with a long history in Scotland. With its beautiful architecture and place right in the middle of nature, next to Loch Laggan, it has become an increasingly popular tourist destination aswell.

It has a long history spanning over hundreds of years, starting with a fire in 1873. After the building was completely burned down, it was rebuilt in the popular style of Scottish baronial architecture. After reconstruction finished in 1878, it persisted and stayed firm until today, being inherited and sold off multiple times throughout the years. Today, the estate is family-owned and has even gotten into tourism. Cottages are offered to rent and they are, together with the main building, even available to rent for weddings. As a movie location it has thrived aswell, with "Outlander" and movies like "No Time to Die" just a few of the many films to have been shot at the estate. It was used as a stand-in for the Balmoral Castle in multiple seasons of “The Crown”, since both share the same baronial style. In my opinion, the estate is a great place to visit. The landscape just amazes with its untouched nature, the hills and the beautiful lake adorning the baronic Building. With the countless movies and shows filmed there, the estate is a dream come true for any fan to experience in real life.

In summary, it can be stated that the Ardverikie Estate is a beautiful location, rich with green nature, hills and a lake. Especially for film fans it's a must-see. To experience the iconic filming location in real life is priceless. Maybe even rent a cottage and enjoy the scenery for days.

Loch Ness

IV2 6TY Inverness, GB

If you are looking for monsters and action, then Loch Ness, located in Scotland, is for you. It is the most famous lake in Scotland due to its horrifying history.
It all started with a man who claimed in the year 565 that he saw a sea monster while he tried to scare it away and saved a man in the process. The sea monster is called Nessie.
The name refers to the lake "Loch Ness". According to reports, Nessie has been spotted over 1, 100 times and to prove it, photos and videos have been taken, although it is not that easy to see.
There is also a Film Named „my Friend the waterdragon“ about Loch Ness and then you have to consider whether the sea monster is real a monster or as depicted in the film.
Loch Ness is the second largest lake in Scotland after Loch Lomond. Its about 36,3 km Long.

In my opinion Loch Ness is a natural paradise there is fishing there, countless hiking trails lead along the lake and of course you can take a boat tour. And if you're lucky you'll see Nessie too. In my opinion, one of the craziest things to visit is Loch Ness because of the lake monster. It's like going back in time.

The bottom line is, if you have balls you should definitely visit
Loch Ness because that definitely takes courage.

Edinburgh Castle

Edinburgh, GB

The castle in Scotland called Edinburgh Castle is also a famous film location and a tourist attractor. It has a bride history. It is located in the capital city of Edinburgh

Edinburgh Castle is Edinburgh's landmark and stands out with its impressive location on Castle Rock, the crater of an extinct volcano. Edinburgh's castle used to be Margaret's Chapel. Edinburgh Castle was built around 1130 by David I for his mother Queen Margaret. The chapel was renamed in 1250 when Margaret was canonized, hence St Margaret's Chapel. In 1371 the Stuarts came to power and Edinburgh Castle became one of the most important castles in Scotland. Mary Stuart also lived there until 1567. During the time, something of the castle was always destroyed and rebuilt and expanded. Many films were shot in Edinburgh castle such as: The Little Vampire,Outlaw King and The Lost King.

In my opinion, I find the place quite boring and would only recommend the place to people who like history.
